Expat Network Newsletter – September 2021
Welcome to Expat Network’s
September 2021 Newsletter
The pandemic is likely to be with us for the long term but the restrictions in many areas are beginning to ease. This certainly does not apply everywhere with some areas, like Australia, facing severe restrictions.
We have been planning events for those planning to move to Spain or Portugal for some time. We are now seeking pre-registration from those interested in attending as we can finally begin planning.
Whether you are living, moving or simply travelling abroad the forex markets are important. Currency Index give their monthly update.
Aetna International have surveyed expats finding more prioritise access to healthcare than their package or career prospects. HSBC have provided a thought-provoking article about the positive impact the pandemic has had and will have on our expat lives.
For those interested in international property investment we ask what impact the Paris Olympics will have on the property market there and have some questions to ask before investing in a European holiday home.
How to protect your online data while living abroad and preparing your children for higher education and their careers are other topics that can impact many expats. We are also introducing a new online booking platform for furnished accommodation for those making a new move abroad.
For those considering a move to North America we have a piece on the financial basics of living in Canada, the cost of living comparison between the US and UK and an article on the basics of US tax filing.

Move To Spain and Move To Portugal Roadshows
We are planning to hold a Move To Spain Roadshow in Alicante and in Marbella and a Move To Portugal Roadshow in the Algarve. These will be an opportunity for people to travel to visit the area they plan to move to get to know the area and see properties that meet their requirements. There will also be a day of talks from experts to guide you through all of the formalities and practicalities of moving to Spain or Portugal. You will have the opportunity for one-to-one no obligation meetings with people who can answer your questions and guide you on your specific plans.
These events have been delayed by the continuing uncertainties about travel restrictions during the pandemic. We have not yet set a date for the events but anyone planning to move to Spain or Portugal can register their interest by following these links and we will let you know as soon as the date has been finalised:

Holiday Time In The August Forex Market
August is often a month of relative calm on the currency markets, with “thin trading”, i.e. less volume transacted, coming as a result of the summer holiday period. In Europe, the normally hectic holiday property market grinds to a halt as lawyers head for the beaches themselves, rather than working on other peoples’ dream moves to the sun. This is reflected around the world with many markets also slowing across the summer period.

Expats Prioritise Access To Quality Healthcare Over Lifestyle And Career Prospects
A survey by Aetna International has found that more expats value access to quality family healthcare than prioritise the financial package or their career prospects. Here we give you the conclusions from the survey.
An
Aetna International survey of expats living abroad has revealed that 87% of expats surveyed believed family health care related employment benefits to be important when considering a job opportunity abroad. A consideration that was found to be more of a priority than the financial package on offer with 85% of expats highlighting this as important rather than not, and the career prospect of the role with 83% of expats surveyed claiming this as an important factor.
